Healthcare Innovation and Emerging Life Science Hubs
In 2002 Los Angeles, all the hype was around Amgen, the world’s largest manufacturer of biologic injectables. Meanwhile, San Francisco and San Diego showcased the benefit of life science hubs in these cities. They clearly had large life science markets, bio-hubs, incubators, innovation centers, and academic research institutions -all working together. These cities show the importance of collaboration, innovation through research. Links between companies, governments and academic institutions are apparent and important.
In the north east partners or competitors are throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts -Boston is the greatest hub for research and innovation. Meanwhile Southeast innovation is anchored by Raleigh, North Carolina and the research triangle park.
Boston, San Fran, San Diego, and Raleigh are the great biotech hubs of the United States today. There is substantial innovation in NYC, Chicago and Seattle anchored by life science and tech giant collaborations. The importance of companies who innovate to improve life expectancy and reduce suffering, is incredible.
Life science innovation centers span the United States. Florida is a healthy place to do business and research that results in innovation. Here are two examples of Florida burgeoning life science campuses:
First, The University of South Florida has accepted an invitation to join some of the country's leading research institutions in the Association of American Universities (AAU). Membership in the esteemed group is by invitation only. The AAU, which was founded in 1900, has only 71 members. The ability of this university to produce biomedical engineers influences the presence of top medical device companies here.
Second, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute broke ground in Speros, Florida, Pasco County. Here is a drone video of the ground break. The 775-acre campus will be the heart of groundbreaking research, innovative partnerships, and mindful healthcare in central Florida. Moffitt currently resides on USF campus with close proximity to AdventHealth, Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital, and has a long standing relationship with Tampa General Hospital.
Florida is excited about medicine, in particular Cell & Gene Therapy. Once again, we find ourselves exactly where we are supposed to be here in Florida and very happy about it!
